U.S. Rice Harvest Soars
WASHINGTON - Sep 11/20 - SNS -- Rice production in the United States is forecast at 225 million cwt (100 pounds), up 3% from the previous forecast and up 22% from 2019, according to the latest USDA crop production update.
Based on a thorough review of all available data, planted area is now estimated at 3.04 million acres, up 4% from the previous estimate and up 20% from last year. Area for harvest is expected to total 2.99 million acres, up 4% from the previous forecast, and up 21% from 2019.
Based on conditions as of September 1, the average United States yield is forecast at 7,529 pounds per acre, down 71 pounds per acre from the previous forecast, but up 58 pounds per acre from 2019.
