Chickpea Harvest Drops a Third
WASHINGTON - Sep 11/20 - SNS -- Chickpea production in the United States is expected sink 38% to 3.89 million cwt (100 pounds) or just over 176,000 metric tons (MT, according to the latest USDA crop production update.
Area planted for all chickpeas for the 2020 crop year is estimated at 254,000 acres, down 44% from the previous year. Area harvested for all chickpeas is forecast at 249,200 acres, 38% below 2019.
Small chickpea area planted is estimated at 40,000 acres, down 62% from 2019. Area harvested for small chickpeas is forecast at 38,800 acres, a 58% decline from 2019.
Area planted for large chickpeas in 2020 is estimated at 214,000 acres, a 38% decline from the previous year. Large chickpea area harvested is forecast at 210,400 acres, a 32% decline from 2019.
