Provinces See More Lentils, Less Peas

PANAMA - Sep 10/20- SNS -- Provincial yield estimates suggest this year's aggregate pulse harvest will be down slightly from Statistics Canada's August forecast, slipping around 35,000 metric tons (MT) 8.3 million.

It is worth noting that the yield estimates come at time when the harvest is entering its final stages for peas and lentils, while the mustard seed harvest is now 73% complete, canaryseed 27% and chickpeas 39%.

The provinces think yields for peas, canaryseed and mustard are lower than forecast by Statistics Canada, but higher for lentils, and chickpeas. Statistics Canada will update its yield estimates on September 14.
