Winter Weather Interrupts Bean Harvest

WASHINGTON - Sep 8/20 - SNS -- The past week saw excellent harvest conditions across much of the United States, with dry edible beans in some areas rapidly reaching maturity.

However, this week began with unusually cold weather settling across much of western Canada and the U.S. midwest. Farmers and processors in both countries are waiting for the cold front to leave so they assess crop damage.

Manitoba Agriculture reported, "Widespread frosts affected much of Southwestern, Northwestern, and Central Manitoba, with damage assessment ongoing, as late-season soybean and corn crops are the most susceptible."
