Mustard Maintain Firm Tone

PANAMA - Sep 4/20 - SNS -- North American mustard seed markets maintained a firm underlying tone in the face of a steep reduction in available supplies from last year.

The week started with Statistics Canada projecting this year's harvest will total 91,100 metric ton (MT) crop, down from 134,600 last year. At week's end, the federal agency said the carry over from the previous marketing year was 61,000 MT, down from 73,000 a year ago.

Markets continue to expect future reports to show an increase in seeded area over current estimates that farmers planted 256,500 acres of all classes of mustard seed. But, initial reports from harvested fields are worrisome.
