PANAMA - Aug 28/20 - SNS -- North American birdseed ingredients markets showed some underlying strength during the past week, likely reflecting worries about the impact weather conditions in Saskatchewan are having on canaryseed.
Because the crop is shallow rooted and considered a cool season crop, canaryseed is more sensitive to heat and less drought tolerant than grains such as wheat.
With the harvest only 5% complete, processors do not yet have a good idea of average yields and are uncertain about the impact weather conditions have had on the crop's yield potential.
