Bigger Area Drives Dry Bean Increase
WASHINGTON - Aug 12/20 - SNS -- Dry edible bean production in the United States is up significantly over last year, according to the latest USDA crop production forecast.
Production of all classes for states included in the USDA report are expected to reach 32.8 million cwt (100 pound units) or 1.488 million metric tons (MT), up 58% from the 2019. Including states previously covered by the USDA reports suggests production may be closer to 1.546 million MT.
Area planted is estimated at 1.63 million acres, up 3% from the June forecast and up 26% from 2019. Area harvested is forecast at 1.57 million acres, up 2% from the June forecast and up 34% 2019. The average United States yield is forecast at 2,088 pounds per acre, an increase of 319 pounds from last season.
