Chickpeas Moderately Firmer

PANAMA - Jul 17/20 - SNS -- Chickpea markets were moderately firmer during the past week, reflecting worries about the presence of ascochyta blight in parts of the growing area.

For growers, the disease increases production costs because of control efforts, while also reducing the yield potential of infected fields.

Spot and new crop markets in both the United States responded, with values advancing for 9mm and larger kabuli type chickpeas.
