Mustard Facing Tighter Supply

PANAMA - Jun 1/20 - SNS -- Land in mustard seed is down this year in North America, with farmers in Canada cutting seeded area from almost 399,000 acres to 256,500 while plantings in the United States are unchanged at 98,000.

Statistics Canada will update its seeded acreage estimate in its August and December crop reports. But, over the years there has been little difference between what was reported in June and the final area.

Assuming no change in area, average yields would see the Canadian harvest plunge from 134,600 to 93,000 metric tons (MT), while output in the United States could inch upward from just under 29,000 MT to around 31,500.
