Modest Strength in Lentils

PANAMA - May 22/20 - SNS -- International lentil markets were moderately firmer during the past week as deliveries by farmers were slowed by spring seeding and tightening on farm inventories.

Planting of this year's crop made excellent progress in Canada, with an estimated 91% of the crop in the ground as of May 25, compared to 98% complete at the same time last year.

Attention is switching to soil moisture conditions because heat and wind are drying the topsoil in many areas. Saskatchewan reckoned the week started with 3% of the land having surplus moisture, 78% adequate, 17% short and 2% very short. This should see good germination levels, but farmers will be wanting a good soaking rain to help with crop establishment.
