India's Lentil Harvest Questioned

PANAMA - May 18/20 - SNS -- Lentil markets were little changed in last week's trading, with exporters remaining doubtful about production levels in India.

That country's agriculture department estimated this year's harvest at 1.44 million metric tons (MT), up from 1.23 million last year and the recent five year average of 1.218 million.

Imports at 75% of the recent five year average would end up around 574,000 MT this calendar year, up slightly from almost 568,000 during 2019, giving the country a raw potential supply of 1.98 million MT of lentils, compared to 1.86 million in 2019.
