Chickpeas Assessing India
PANAMA - May 15/20 - SNS -- International chickpea markets posted a mixed finish on the week, with traders assessing the impact of India's latest production forecast on the country's export potential and possible impact on regional demand.
This year's chickpea crop is expected to total 10.9 million metric tons (MT), up from 9.94 million last year and the previous five year average of 9.018 million.
Production is not broken down by class, but markets believe kabuli chickpea output is down because of lower average market values, while desi type has increased.
