7% of U.S. Pea Crop Sown

WASHINGTON - Apr 20/20 - SNS -- Roughly 7% of this year's U.S. field pea crop has now been planted, with little or no progress reported outside the U.S. Pacific northwest.

Conditions remain generally unfavorable in North Dakota, though modest improvement in parts of Montana allowed farmers in that state to get 1% of their intended acreage in the ground, compared to 12% at this time last year and the recent average of 18% complete by the third week of May.

Crop reporters in North Dakota say there were only 1.9 days suitable for fieldwork during the past week. Last year's harvest of all crops is still not complete, which is slowing progress in parts of the state.
