India Plans For Increased Pulse Output

NEW DELHI - Apr 16/20 - SNS -- India's agriculture department is confident this year's rabi season pulse output will reach 15.11 million metric tons (MT), up from 15.02 million last year.

At the same time in this year's national kharif conference, the government said it wants to see output of all food grains increase to 298 million MT, from an estimated 291.95 million during the current 2019-20 production cycle.

Initial forecasts call for a near normal monsoon season. However, kharif and rabi season yield prospects depend on the distribution and intensity of rains around the country. Last year's monsoon was problematic, with parts of the country reporting problems with significant flooding, which resulted in lower average yields of some crops.
