Farmers Cutting Chickpea Area

PANAMA - Apr 3/20 - SNS -- Plantings of chickpeas in both Canada and the United States will be down sharply from last year.

In its seeding intentions report, the USDA said farmers plan to slash land in chickpeas by 32% from 451,400 to 306,000 acres. Statistics Canada will release its seeding intentions report at the end of April.

Most of the decrease is in large chickpeas, with area expected to plunge 41% to 206,000 acres, while seedings of small chickpeas may only drop 5% to 100,000 acres.
