Strong Spot Demand Props Up Beans

PANAMA - Mar 27/20 - SNS -- International dry edible bean markets closed the week's trading on a firm note against solid improvements in short term demand.

This reflects a global spike in retail sales of most classes of dry edible beans, chickpeas, and other pulses. Hoarding by consumers fearful of food shortages and unsure how long they will be forced to stay away from jobs has fueled demand.

The net result was the spot index for dry edible beans in the United States was advanced 2.9 points on the week to close at 161.5.
