Modest Anxiety in Birdseeds

PANAMA - Jan 31/20 - SNS -- Birdseed markets finished the week's trading largely unchanged, though some ingredient markets ended on a nervous note.

There is concern that the coronavirus outbreak, which started in China, and is now spreading beyond that country could have a negative impact on global markets.

Discussing the issue, the U.S. based National Sunflower Association said, "The disease plus Lunar New Year celebration in China have slowed export purchases and pushed soybean prices lower with some spillover weakness in wheat and corn. Traders fear the disease outbreak will lead to slower demand and impact China's commitment to purchase large quantities of US agricultural products in the Phase One US-China trade deal."
