Markets Mull U.S. Chickpea Estimates
PANAMA - Jan 12/20 - SNS -- Chickpea production in the United States was pegged at almost 283,000 metric tons (MT), down sharply from the 580,494 grown in 2018.
Breaking down production by size category, the USDA said output of chickpeas smaller than 20/64 inches sank 67% to 64,547 MT, while output of chickpeas larger than 20/64 inches plunged 49% to 218,362 MT.
Residual supplies of all classes of chickpeas from the previous marketing year were substantial, with the result available supplies are down marginally, slipping from around 686,500 MT to almost 670,000.
