Field Peas Maintain Holiday Mood
PANAMA - Jan 5/20 - SNS -- Field pea markets maintained their quiet tone in holiday reduced trading interest during the past week.
Seeding of this year's rabi season pulse crops is starting to slow in India, but farmers continued planting crops at an above average pace, lifting land in all pulses to 14.624 million hectares for the week ending January 3, up from 14.222 million last year and above the recent average of 14.073 million.
Breaking down seeding progress by class, India said land in gram or chickpeas now totals 9.852 million hectares, compared to the 9.319 at this time last year. Lentil plantings are down from 1.633 million at 1.546 million hectares, while field pea seedings have advanced from 908,000 to 927,000.
