Strong Finish For Lentils in 2020

PANAMA - Dec 23/19 - SNS -- International lentil markets are finishing the 2020 calendar year on firm note, with growers and processors seeing relatively good demand for available supplies and qualities.

As expected, price spreads between grades have widened over last season. The average discount for No 2 Canada large green lentils versus No 1 grade has jumped 41% to CDN $1.14 per 100 pounds so far this marketing year. The Extra 3 discount has risen 32% to average $6.14, while the No 3 Canada discount to No 1 grade product has risen 25% to $9.52 per 100 pounds.

Prices offered to growers in Canada are higher on average than last season, but because of the higher proportion of offgrade product, weighted average grower bids so far this marketing year are virtually identical to last season's weighted average.
