Desi Chickpeas Seeing Action, Kabuli Less

PANAMA - Dec 23/19 - SNS -- International chickpea markets maintained their relatively quiet tone during the past week, though demand for desi type chickpeas and substitute products remains relatively strong on the Indian subcontinent.

While markets remain pessimistic about demand from India in the coming year because land in chickpeas has now pushed ahead of last year, there are doubts about how much Pakistan will produce.

This has added strength to international desi chickpea markets because available supplies in net exporting countries such as Australia are down sharply from last year, with residual stocks expected to drop to manageable levels by the close of that country's marketing year.
