Uncertainty Enters Lentil Market

PANAMA - Nov 1/19 - SNS -- Lentil markets finished the week's trading on a relatively firm note despite concerns about the status of outstanding shipments destined for the Indian subcontinent.

Markets continue to be helped by worries about the quality of the Canadian harvest and ongoing competition from the United States in quality markets and from Russia in other destinations.

There was chatter in markets that a bulk cargo of lentils had been rejected by India. This raised concern that despite an immediate shortage of some classes of pulses in parts of that country, lentil imports face extra scrutiny because of this year's surge in purchases.
