Firm Tone in Lentils

PANAMA - Oct 25/19 - SNS -- International lentil markets maintained their firm tone through the past week, despite expectations demand from the Indian subcontinent could be diminished.

Moisture conditions in India and Pakistan are deemed excellent heading into the rabi planting season. By itself, it could encourage and expansion in land in pulses, including lentils.

India's government boosted minimum support prices (MSP) for lentils and chickpeas by 7% and 6% respectively.

This lifts the MSP for chickpeas to Rs 4875 per 100 kilograms or from U.S. $654 to $686 per metric ton (MT) and for lentils to Rs 4800 per quintal or from $633 this year to $676 MT for the next harvest.
