Little Change in Chickpeas

PANAMA - Oct 11/19 - SNS -- Chickpea markets were mostly unchanged on the week, with markets remaining uncertain about the quality of the North American harvest.

The USDA's updated production estimates for this year did not look at chickpeas. However, changes in yield estimates for some of the producing states suggest the U.S. harvest could be just over 325,000 metric tons (MT), down from 579,000 last year but above the recent five year average of 279,000 MT.

Provincial yields estimates for Canada were less optimistic than those from Statistics Canada, indicating that country's harvest could be closer to 248,000 MT than the almost 262,700 forecast by Statistics Canada.
