Birdseeds Maintain Firm Tone

PANAMA - Oct 11/19 - SNS -- North American birdseed ingredient markets finished the week's trading with a firmer undertone, helped by harvest delays in Canada and strength in white proso millet.

Though Canada's canaryseed harvest is advancing at the same pace as last year, with 50% in the bin as the week got underway, processors and exporters believe they have reached the limit of grower selling at current prices.

This saw average bids advance during the week to set a new season high. They rose half a cent per pound to range up to CDN 30.5 cents for farmers dressed product delivered western Canadian processing plants. A similar premium is available for delivery after December, with bids for delivery during the first quarter of 2020 ranging up to 31 cents.
