U.S. Rice Harvest Sharply Lower
WASHINGTON - Oct 10/19 - SNS -Rice production is forecast at 189 million cwt (100 pound units), up 1% from the previous forecast, but down 16% from last year, according to the USDA's latest crop production estimates.
Area for harvest is expected to total 2.48 million acres, unchanged from the previous forecast but down 15% from last year.
Based on conditions as of October 1, the average United States yield is forecast at 7,616 pounds per acre, up 53 pounds from the previous forecast, but 76 pounds lower than the 2018 average yield of 7,692 pounds per acre.
