Modest Upgrade in Sugarcane Forecast

WASHINGTON - Oct 10/19 - SNS -- Production of sugarcane for sugar and seed in 2019 is forecast at 34.8 million tons, up slightly from last month, and 1% above last year, according to the USDA's latest crop production estimates.

Producers intend to harvest 924,300 acres for sugar and seed during the 2019 crop year, up one% from last month and up 3% from last year.

Yields for sugar and seed are expected to average 37.6 tons per acre down 0.2 ton from last month, and down 0.8 ton from 2018.
