Major Drop in U.S. Durum Harvest
WASHINGTON - Sep 30/19 - SNS -- Durum wheat production was estimated at 57.7 million bushels, down 26% from the revised 2018 total of 78.0 million bushels, according to the USDA's small grains production report.
Area harvested for grain totaled 1.29 million acres, down 35% from the previous year. The United States yield was estimated at a record high 44.8 bushels per acre, up 5.3 bushels from the 2018 yield.
Record high yields were estimated in Montana and North Dakota for 2019. Production in North Dakota, the largest Durum wheat-producing State, was down 31% from 2018. Declines in production are attributed to declines in harvested acres across the Nation.
