Big Jump in Pea Output
PANAMA - Sep 14/19 - SNS -- Field pea production in Canada and the United States is up sharply from last year, jumping from 4.31 million to a forecast 5.69 million metric tons (MT).
Statistics Canada expects the Canadian harvest to total 4.67 million MT, up from 3.58 million last year. Meanwhile, the USDA reports production in that country will be the second highest on record at 1.02 million MT, compared to almost 723,000 last year.
Canada carried over 388,000 MT of peas from the 2018-19 marketing year, resulting in a record high available supply of 5.12 million MT, compared to 4.29 million last year and the recent five year average of 4.63 million.
