Little Response to Crop Reports

PANAMA - Sep 14/19 - SNS -- International lentil markets did not react strongly to the latest production estimates from Statistics Canada and the USDA, even though combined production is expected to jump from 2.82 to 3.54 million metric tons (MT).

The slow pace of the Canadian harvest has created concern that available supplies of new crop No 2 or better large green lentils could be limited.

Processors in the United States have been size grading lentils for buyers who prefer large caliber product. But it is unlikely they can generate enough product to cover potential shortfalls of high quality, new crop merchandise from Canada.
