Sharp Drop in Canaryseed Output
PANAMA - Aug 30/19 - SNS -- North American birdseed ingredient markets paid little attention to Canada's first production estimate for canaryseed.
Based on yield estimates from farmers before the harvest started, Statistics Canada pegged the average yield at 819 pounds per seeded acre, down from 1,210 last year and the recent average of 1,030 pounds.
Seeded area estimates were left unchanged at 188,200 acres, with 183,400 in Saskatchewan and the balance in other provinces. Saskatchewan's average yield was pegged at 797 pounds per seeded acre.
