Little Reaction To StatsCan Report

PANAMA - Aug 30/19 - SNS -- Mustard seed markets did not react to the latest crop production estimates from Statistics Canada, even though farmers think this year's crop will be down 10% at 156,100 metric tons (MT).

This year's steep drop in seeded area more than offset and expected increase in average yields from 760 to 863 pounds per seeded acre. It is important to note that the harvest has only just begun. As the week got underway, around 1% of the crop was in the bin.

Saskatchewan is the main producing area, with farmers expected production to drop from 134,700 to 115,600 MT, while output in Alberta could increase from 39,800 to 39,800 MT and production in other provinces sink from 2,200 to 700 MT.
