North American Harvest Pace Quickens

PANAMA - Aug 16/19 - SNS -- North American field pea markets have completed the transition into new crop, despite limited harvest progress in Canada.

Available data suggests 30% of the U.S.crop was in the bin as week got underway, compared to 51% by the middle of August last year. This suggests around 241,000 metric tons (MT) of new crop peas were available during the week in the U,S. compared to 374,000 MT by the same time last year.

By contrast, only around 3% of the Canadian crop was in the bin because of poor harvest conditions. The weather is expected to improve significantly in the coming week, suggesting significant progress could be recorded.
