WASHINGTON - Aug 12/19 - SNS -- Sorghum production in the U.S. is forecast at 354 million bushels, down 3% from last year, according to the USDA's latest crop production report.
Area harvested for grain is forecast at 4.79 million acres, up 4% from the previous forecast, but down 5% from 2018.
Based on August 1 conditions, yield is forecast at 73.9 bushels per acre, 1.8 bushels above the 2018 yield of 72.1 bushels per acre. Growers are expecting record high yields in Texas.
