Bulk Handling System Stocks Down

WINNIPEG - Aug 8/19 - SNS -- The 2018-19 marketing year ended with 411,900 metric tons (MT) of pulses and other specialty crops on hand in the bulk handling system, down 11% from 460,600 on July 31 last year.

It is important to note that the Canadian Grain Commission (CGC) does not include inventories in processing plants. That means actual commercial stocks at the end of the marketing year were higher. Statistics Canada will release its ending stock estimates for peas and lentils on September 6.

The CGC reports that the biggest decline in inventories in the bulk handling system was recorded by peas. They sank 27% from last year to close the marketing year at 195,000 MT. Deliveries by farmers into the bulk handling system were up 13% over last year at 3.297 million MT, while the quantity of peas loaded for bulk export rose 3% to 2.127 million MT.
