Canadian Pea Yields Expected to Rise

PANAMA - Aug 3/19 - SNS -- Old and new crop values in North American field peas markets aligned as the 2019-20 marketing campaign got underway in Canada.

This year's harvest has not started, but initial ideas about the yield potential of Canada's crop are emerging. Markets will also be looking toward the USDA's August 12 crop report to get a feeling for yields in the United States.

The report does not look at peas or lentils nor break down dry edible bean production estimates by class. But, it offers state level production estimates for dry edible beans, giving an indication of potential yield changes over last year for peas, lentils and chickpeas.

Alberta's agriculture department thinks farmers in that province will harvest an average of almost 2,500 pounds of peas per acre, compared to 2,346 pounds per seeded acre last year.
