Chickpeas Relatively Inactive

PANAMA - Jul 26/19 - SNS -- International chickpea markets remained relatively inactive during the past week, with wide price variations seen among exporters for some sizes of kabuli type product.

Bids from potential buyers remain low while grower price expectations remain relatively high. The net result is many processors are reluctant to sell because of tight margins.

Recent rains in much of Saskatchewan has contributed to an increase in reports of ascochyta blight and incidents of root rot in pulse crops. Given the fact the world has an oversupply of medium and small caliber product, markets are not reacting to the potential for yield reductions in Saskatchewan.
