Second Lowest Safflower Area

WASHINGTON - Jun 28/19 - SNS -- Area planted to safflower is estimated at 153,000 acres in 2019, down 3% for comparable States in 2018, according to the USDA's seeded area estimates for 2019.

This is the second lowest planted area for the Nation since records began in 1991. Area for harvest is forecast at 145,500 acres, down 1% for comparable States from last year. This represents the third lowest harvested area on record, if realized.

Growers in California, the largest State in terms of planted area in 2018, planted the same amount as last year. Compared with last year, the largest decline in planted area occurred in Montana.

Beginning in 2019, safflower estimates were discontinued in North Dakota.
