U.S. Dry Bean Seeding Underway

WASHINGTON - May 14/19 - SNS -- Seeding of this year's dry edible bean crops is now underway, though many states are not yet reporting any seeding progress.

Two key states, Minnesota and North Dakota, report 2% of this year's intended areas is now in the ground, while states such as Michigan have yet to report any progress planting the crop.

Seeding is most advanced in Montana, with 40% of crops the crop sown. However, the bulk of dry edible bean production in the state is chickpeas. The USDA has separated chickpeas from dry edible beans in its area and production reports, but they are still included in the category at the state level.
