India's Lentil Demand Muted
PANAMA - Mar 1/19 - SNS -- International lentil markets were little changed during the past week, though asking prices among exporters continue to occupy a wide range.
Markets were surprised by India's second crop production estimate, which is looking for lentil production to reach 1.53 million metric tons (MT) down from 1.61 million last year, but above the recent five average of 1.17 million.
Average yields were pegged at 904 kilograms per hectare, down slightly from 927 last year, but significantly higher than the previous five year average of 763 kilograms per hectare. Seeded area was pegged at 1.53 million hectares, down from last year's record 1.61 million.
