Birdseeds Remain Mixed

PANAMA - Mar 1/19 - SNS -- Birdseed ingredient markets finished the week's trading on a slightly mixed note with strength in white proso millet offset by weakness in oil type sunflower in some locations.

Rising values for millet are welcome news to canaryseed shippers because as stocks of millet are reduced and if prices continue to advance, some domestic demand could switch into canaryseed.

Markets are anxious to see the March 31 seeding intentions from the United States. Though it will not include estimates for millet, sunflower area by class are included. More importantly, it will reflect growers ideas about major crops like corn, soybean wheat, and pulses, which will be helpful in developing a sense of how much area could go into crops like millet and other birdseed ingredients.
