Massive Chickpea Area Decline Forecast

PANAMA - Jan 18/19 - SNS -- In its latest monthly review of Canadian chickpeas Agriculture Canada's market analysis branch in Winnipeg issued its first forecast of seeded area and production for the 2019-20 marketing year. The forecasts are not based on surveys of growers.

It predicts production will total 130,000 MT from 75,000 hectares, compared to 311,000 MT from 179,000 hectares last year.

Agriculture Canada forecasts exports will reach 100,000 MT in 2019-20, compared to 90,000 this season and 116,000 MT the previous marketing year. Domestic use is forecast at 68,000 MT in the coming marketing year, versus 67,000 this season.
