Brazil Supporting Bean Market

PANAMA - Jan 11/19 - SNS -- Dry edible bean markets closed the week with a generally firmer undertone, reflecting production last year's problems in Brazil and Argentina.

Brazil is expecting a major increase in output in 2019, but the third crop from 2018 was disappointing, resulting in improved demand for black beans from Argentina and other origins.

This helped the U.S. spot index for beans advance 0.8 points on the week to finish at 115. The Canadian pulse price index rose 1.4 points to finish at 135.8, though the world pulse price index slipped 0.5 points to close at 147.8, reflecting some easing in values in Australia which suggest its opening season demand is well covered.
