Dry Beans Modestly Firmer

PANAMA - Dec 7/18 - SNS -- Canada's dry edible bean harvest was hurt by lower than expected yields, judging from Statistics Canada's final crop production estimates for the year.

It boosted total land in beans from 305,400 to 353,300 acres, but production slipped from initial estimates of 345,300 metric tons (MT) to 341,100.

Navy bean output was pegged at 88,800 MT from 88,500 acres, down from 103,000 MT from 94,700 acres last year. Colored bean output was also down from last year, ending up at 252,600 MT from 264,500 acres, compared to 259,700 MT from 260,100 acres in 2017.
