Smaller Fababean Harvest

PANAMA - Dec 7/18 - SNS -- Canada's fababean harvest is down from last year, with Statistics Canada pegging total production at 91,300 metric tons (MT) from 78,400 acres, compared to 99,800 from 95,000 acres in 2017.

A significant portion of the crop is consumed by domestic livestock feed markets, but opportunities to export food quality fababeans have improved because of smaller crops in Australia and the United Kingdom.

In its latest crop report, the Australian Bureau of Agricultural and Resource Economics and Sciences (ABARES) said this year's harvest totalled 214,000 MT from 171,000 hectares, compared to 330,000 MT from 220,000 hectares last year.
