Uncertainty in Chickpeas

PANAMA - Oct 5/18 - SNS -- Canadian chickpea markets finished the week on an uncertain note because of continued delays with this year's harvest and freezing temperatures overnight in most locations.

Though the harvest started the week 78% complete, few growers or processors are optimistic about the quality of the remaining fields.

At the same time, provincial yield estimates suggest total production will be smaller than initially expected, perhaps ending up closer to 258,000 metric tons (MT) than the 283,000 forecast by Statistics Canada.
