U.S. Lentil Output Jumps

WASHINGTON - Sep 13/18 - SNS -- Improved growing conditions more than offset the drop in seeded area to push lentil production in the United States 17% higher than last year at almost 399,000 metric tons (MT).

In its first production estimate for the lentils, the USDA noted seeded area was down 29% from last year at 785,000 acres. However, average yields jumped 65% to 1,119 pounds per seeded acre or 1,159 pounds per harvested acre.

The USDA noted that 96% of Montana's crop has been planted by June 3 , while 87% was in the bin by September 2, while 76% of North Dakota's crop was also in the bin.
