Yield Optimism Despite Weather Challenges
REGINA - Aug 30/18 - SNS -- Canada's official production estimates for 2018 will be released August 31, but initial estimates from provincial agriculture departments suggest this year's yields are above average for peas, canaryseed and mustard, but below average for lentils and chickpeas.
With three quarters of the pea and lentil crop in the bin, crop reporters in Saskatchewan think yields for those crops will average 1,260 pounds per acre for lentils and 2,340 pounds for peas.
Statistics Canada's estimates are based on a survey of farmers and considered official, whereas the provincial estimates are based on crop reporters in each provincial crop district.
