Mixed Week As Lentil Harvest Advances

PANAMA - Aug 24/18 - SNS -- North American lentil markets finished the week's trading on a mixed note, reflecting harvest selling pressure in greens but a certain reluctance among farmers to sell red lentils.

The harvest is making good progress, with the week starting with 55% of Canada's crop in the bin, compared to 57% at the same time last year and the recent five year average of almost 32%. Another 14% was ready to straight combine in Saskatchewan and 2% were in swath, suggesting harvest progress may already be three quarters complete.

Processors believe the main degrading factor for Canadian green lentils will be color, reflecting the impact of hot and dry conditions while seeds were maturing.
