U.S. Bean Harvest Starting

WASHINGTON - Aug 6/18 - SNS -- Dry edible bean crops in the United States remain in generally good condition, with initial harvest activity reported in those states which seeded crops early.

Crop reporters in Colorado say 4% of dry bean crop has been cut, while 5% of Montana's dry bean crop has been harvested. Montana includes chickpeas in the dry bean category.

The harvest in Montana is well behind last year. At this time, 55% of the crop was in the bin, compared to the recent five year average of 17% harvested by the first week of August.
